On 24 May 2003, Jorge Masvidal made his MMA debut at HOOKnSHOOT: Absolute Fighting Championship 3. He won the fight. During his time with Absolute Fighting Championship, the American fighter won the promotion’s Welterweight Championship.

Masvidal joined Bellator in 2009, and won his first fight against Nick Agallar via TKO. At Bellator 12, he defeated Eric Reynold via rear-naked choke submission in a 160 lb. catchweight bout.
