Can Tusker make it back to back wins with Sharks home duel?

  • Tusker started off the season with a win in Bandari
  • They face Kariobangi Sharks at home
  • David Odoyo will miss the match due to suspension

Tusker FC will look to make it back to back wins when they take on Kariobangi Sharks at their Ruaraka Complex backyard on Saturday evening. The brewers kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Bandari FC in Mombasa, and they are keen to make it another three points with their first home game of the season.

Ugandan striker Deogratious Ojok, who scored the lone goal in their victory against Bandari hopes they can maintain the momentum and get another important victory.

“We started really well and as a team that is what we needed. We will work harder to continue in the same form. We know we play against a very tough Kariobangi Sharks and it will not be an easy match. We have to work hard for it,” said the forward.

Having struggled to score last season, Ojok hopes he can maintain momentum, even as he eyes double digit goals for the club.

“Last season I had some personal problems which hindered me a lot but this time, I believe my mind is clearer. Starting off with a goal was the best possible way to give me motivation and I want to score more. My target this season is to score double digit goals,” the Ugandan further added.

They come up against a Kariobangi Sharks side seeking their first win of the season, having played to a 0-0 draw with Kenya Police FC last weekend.

Closely contested ties between them

Duels between the two have been closely contested over the last few meetings. Last season, Tusker won the second leg 1-0 at the Nyayo National Stadium while the first leg at Ruaraka ended 1-1.

For this duel, the brewers will miss the services of midfielder David Odoyo who is serving a three-match ban after his red card against Bandari, but they will be delighted with the availability of new signing Fabian Adikiny.

Adikiny had been primed to start ahead of Odoyo in Mombasa last weekend, but couldn’t play as he wasn’t yet approved by the federation. With his registration having been worked on this week, he will slot in straight into the starting team, hoping to make an impression.

Adikiny was signed from Murang’a Seal at the end of last season. “I am excited and looking forward to my first match. This has been my dream to play in the top flight and I can’t wait to start,” the 22-year old said.

Gor face Ulinzi Stars in Lang’ata

Meanwhile in other matches scheduled for Saturday, both Gor Mahia and Ulinzi Stars will be chasing their first wins of the season when they clash at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.

The soldiers were beaten 2-1 by Nzoia Sugar in Bungoma last weekend, while Gor had to come from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Sofapaka at the Kasarani Stadium.

Elsewhere, Murang’a Seal will host Kakamega Homeboyz at their St. Sebastian Park backyard, looking to make it two wins in a row after beating Shabana FC last weekend.
