Three years later, he joined Stoke City in the Premier League but only stayed for one season transferring to Paris Saint-Germain. In the following season, he joined Bayern Munich on a one-year contract and upon its end, it was extended with one more year.

Maxim represented Germany at the 2008 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification for the U19 Championship and the 2011 UEFA European U21 Championship qualification for the 2011 UEFA European U21 Championship.
