Hernangomez is a Spanish professional basketball player who plays for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association.
The player began his career professionally with Real Madrid, drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the NBA Draft and later sold out to the New York Knicks.

Personal Life
Hernangomez was born on May 27th 1994 in Madrid, Spain to his parents, mother Margarita Wonny Geuer Draeger who was born in Seville and is of German origin.
The player has an elder brother Juanco Hernangomez, a professional basketball player who could be the reason Willy joined the sport.
At a young age, Hernangomez joined the Real Madrid youth academy making his professional debut for the club at twelve years and helping the team win the Spanish League Championship the following year.
He was then drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2015 National Basketball Association [NBA] and played for the New York Knicks, Charlotte Hornets and New York Orleans Pelicans.
He is currently single though rumour has it that he could be in a working relationship. He neither has any child.
Career
Hernangomez joined the Real Madrid youth academy at a young age and is considered one of the best prospects to have trained with them.
In his first two seasons, he played on Real Madrid’s reserve team and the next season, he was loaned to Cajasol Sevilla extending his agreement for one more season.
A few months later, he returned to Real Madrid playing for the senior team.
He declared for the NBA draft being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers, and later traded to the New York Knicks in exchange for two future second-draft choices and cash considerations.
A year later, he signed a deal with the New York Knicks, made his debut in a loss to Cleveland and was then assigned to the Westchester Knicks, New York’s D-League affiliate.
At New York Knicks, he was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month and the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
The player was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Johnny O’Bryant and two future second-round draft picks.
He is currently with New Orleans Pelicans after he signed a contract with them in 2020.
Hernangomez played at the 2012 Albert Schweitzer Tournament as a member of the junior national teams of Spain. He played at the 2011 FIBA Europe U18 Championship the previous year.
He won a gold medal and a bronze medal at the U20 Championship 2014 FIBA Europe and was also named to the All-Tournament team.

With Spain’s senior national team, he played at the EuroBasket where he won a gold medal and at the Summer Olympics the following year winning a Bronze medal.
In the FIBA World Cup four years ago, the player won a gold medal. In 2022 at the EuroBasket, the player together with his Spain team won a gold medal after defeating France in the final, being named the EuroBasket MVP in the tournament.
