Gerard Pique pulled a surprise on everyone when he announced that he was retiring from football. His Barcelona fans are now wondering what he is now doing after a decade in Barcelona but he has dedicated his life after football to growing his company Kosmos.

It’s an interesting life for him, especially after divorcing his celebrity wife Shakira after a beautiful decade together. The estranged couple has two kids together and each of them seems to have moved on with life. Shakira is reportedly dating Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton.

So, what is he doing with Kosmos now that he is out of La Liga?

KOSMOS TURNAROUND

The former Barcelona player says that he has managed to turn things around for Kosmos in the past year. He told Marca in an interview that Kosmos was previously handling sports alone in the old fashion way but the company now has a strong digital footprint.

He realized that Kosmos would do much better with the integration of the internet world, streams, and content providers. This led to the formation of an e-sports squad which is deep into the streaming world.

“Due to a series of situations, we have turned the company around. We realized a couple of years ago, when I did the first interview with Ibai, which was the potential of the digital world, stream, content creators… We started working with him and made an e-sports team,” Pique said.

Kosmos landed a lucrative deal with the Kings League with a very deep history. In the 1970s, Barcelona hosted the league which is an elite tennis competition. It draws top tennis stars and exhibits fierce competition and compelling battle. The Kings League gives players a chance to present their talents and compete for the coveted crown.

Since then, tennis saw significant growth and popularity thanks to the Barcelona-based Kings League.

The league now has 12 teams now and that’s where he spends most of his time at since he is now retired.  He created it from scratch and involves some football. It also gives him a learning opportunity because he is learning from past mistakes and also embracing change.

Pique appreciates the value of public input into his projects which helps him do things in a better way. Kosmo purchased TV rights to Ligue 1 and Copa America for Ibai’s channel. The company also has a deal with Serie A and La Liga.  These engagements now take 80% of his time and he is happy with the way things are progressing.

WHAT ELSE IS KOSMOS DOING?

Kosmos collaborated with La Liga to develop a theme park in Port Aventura. This project intrigues him because it strengthens his brand not just as an athlete but in business terms too. The port will be one of Europe’s top theme park and the top amusement park in all of Spain.
