Vinicius Jr. received a straight red card for the first time in La Liga last night during Real Madrid‘s 1-0 defeat by Valencia.
Earlier in the match, Vinicius attempted to bring a Valencia supporter to the referee’s attention for racist chants. The Brazil international reacted angrily to an incident in the stands and the match was momentarily paused. He was fired up from the moment and lost his cool in the last minutes of the game, eventually being sent off for violent conduct.

Vinicius Jr has been the subject of racist abuse numerous times this season and has previously expressed his frustrations towards La Liga authorities. After the abuse at Valencia, Vinicius Jr posted an Instagram story expressing his upset at the events that happened.
The 22-year-old said La Liga belongs to racists as the Championship thinks its normal with other teams encouraging it too.
“The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi today belongs to racists. It wasn’t the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it’s normal, the Federation does too and the opponents encourage it.” Vinicius wrote on Instagram.
“A beautiful nation, which welcomed me and which I love, but which agreed to export the image of a racist country to the world. I’m sorry for the Spaniards who don’t agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. And unfortunately, for everything that happens each week, I have no defence. I agree. But I am strong and I will go to the end against racists. Even if far from here.” The Real Madrid forward added.
La Liga released a statement saying it will investigate the incident and take ‘appropriate legal action’ if it identifies any hate crime. The league also called on people to submit any footage that maybe useful in their investigations on the case.
On the other hand, Valencia condemned the racist chants aimed at Vinicius Jr and said they will take the most severe measures after they are done with investigations.
Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said he heard “monkey chants” 20 minutes into the game and would have walked off if Vinicius had decided to stop playing.
Reacting to the incident, Brazilian football federation (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues wrote on a statement posted on Instagram asking “how long are we going to experience this?”
Vinicius’ manager Carlo Ancelotti said the game should have been stopped because of the abuse directed at the Brazil international.

Vinicius also received support from former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand who questioned how many times the young Brazilian will be a subject of racism.
