On 7 December 2013, Porter defeated Devon Alexander via unanimous decision to win the IBF welterweight title. He defended the title once before losing it in the next match against Kell Brook on 16 August 2014. He suffered the second loss of his professional career on 25 June 2016, against Keith Thurman.
On 4 November 2017, Porter defeated Adrian Granados to win the vacant WBC Silver welterweight title. In his next fight against Danny Garcia, he won the vacant WBC welterweight title. He lost the title in September 2019 after suffering defeat against Errol Spence Jr.
His last professional fight was against Terence Crawford on 20 November 2021 at Michelob Ultra Arena, Paradise, Nevada. Terence won the fight via TKO.
