Career
The son of a former footballer, Sergio Busquets was introduced to the sport at a very young age. He began playing with local teams Badia, Barbera Andalucia, Lleida and Jabac Terrassa before joining Barcelona youth team in 2005. He scored seven goals in 26 games for the Juvenil A team in his second season.
Busquets’ impressive performance saw him receive promotion to the B team, which at the time was being coached by Pep Guardiola. In the same season, he made his first-team debut as a substitute.
On 13 September 2008, Sergio Busquets made his La Liga debut in a 1-1 draw against Racing Santander. Three months later, he signed a new contract with the Catalans, keeping him at Camp Nou until 2013. Busquets soon began challenging Yaya Toure and Seydou Keita for the defensive midfield spot in Barca’s starting eleven.
Following the departure of those two, Sergio Busquets became Barcelona’s number one choice for the defensive midfield spot. He has since been a key member of the team over the years helping them win nine La Liga, three UEFA Champions League and three FIFA Club World Cup, among others.
