Career
Rodri enrolled at Rayo Majadahonda academy in 2006 where he spent one year before moving to Atletico Madrid. Six year later, Atletico Madrid released him due to “lack of physical strength” and he subsequently signed with Villareal.
Rodri made his senior debut for Villareal’s reserves team on 7 February 2015 in a 3-1 win over RCD Espanyol B. The young midfielder then made his first-team debut in December 2015. His first La Liga match was against Rayo Vallecano on 17 April 2016.
Well, it didn’t take long before Rodri established himself as a regular in Villareal’s team. On 4 December 2017, he signed a new contract with Villareal which was to keep him at the club until 2022. However, his time with the club only lasted until the summer of 2018 when he returned to Atletico Madrid.

Rodri made his debut for Atletico Madrid in a 4-2 triumph over Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup. The midfielder spent just one season with Diego Simeone’s side before joining Manchester City in July 2019. With the Cytizens, Rodri has won two Premier League titles, two EFL Cups and FA Community Shield.
At international level, Rodri represents the Spain national team. He played for Spain’s under-16, under-19 and under-21 levels before making his debut for the senior team in March 2018. The 26-year-old has since earned 41 caps.
