Personal Life

Mark was born on October 9, 1975, in Melbourne, Australia, to his parents Joe and Rose Viduka. He has five siblings. His father immigrated from Croatia to Australia in the 1960s. He has a Croatian footballer cousin Luka Modric.

As a kid, he was an AC Millan fan and he could watch matches involving the club again and again. This was an inspiration to him. Before fame, Mark began his career in the crossover Melbourne Croatia Club in 1993 in the National Soccer League. Mark is married to his long-term lover Ivana and together they have three sons. Their firstborn is Joseph, born in November 2002, the second is Lucas, born in September 2006 and the third, is Oliver, born in May 2008.

After his retirement from soccer, he now runs a coffee shop in the North of the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

Career

Mark began his professional career in Australia, Club Melbourne Knights initially known as Melbourne Croatia. In 1994, he became an Australian international. At the club, he became the top scorer in the National Soccer League and was awarded the Johnny Warren Medal for the best player in the 1993-95 seasons.

In 1995, he moved to Croatia and joined Croatia Zagreb currently known as Dinamo Zagreb, spending three-and-a-half seasons. He helped the club win three doubles in Croatia. In 1997, he was part of the team that played in the third round of the UEFA Cup and became the best Foreign footballer in the Croatia league.

In 1998, he moved to Celtic at a fee of $ 4.4 million. The club raised a complaint that he quit the club without playing for them, saying he was stressed up. On the other hand, Croatia Zagreb was on Celtic’s neck complaining they didn’t receive a transfer fee for him. However, the issue was solved by making his first appearance for Celtic in February 1999.

He appeared in the U21 team though was overage in a victory against Motherwell. His first team debut was against Dundee United and his first goal for the club was in the Scottish Cup against Greenock Morton in 2000. He saw the club win in the Scottish League Cup before he left.

In the 2000/2001 season, he was signed up for Leeds at a fee of $7.5 million. During this season, he scored 22 goals and four were in a win over Liverpool. In 2001 summer, he signed a five-year deal where he would star in both domestic and Europe competitions.

In 2004, He was signed by Middlesbrough at a fee of $5.6 million. His impressive tactics helped the club reach the FA semi-final and UEFA Cup final. He scored 19 goals in all competitions for the club. In June 2007, he joined Newcastle on a free transfer, for two years and was released upon the Club’s relegation in the 2008/2009 season.

The contracts from different clubs have seen his net worth grow immensely since he began his football career.
