Liverpool FC beat Leicester City 3-0 on Monday to sink them deeper in the relegation battle at the King Power Stadium in a Premier League match.

Jurgen Klopp’s team won for the seventh time in a row thanks to goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones. The home crowd booed at the conclusion of the game due to yet another poor defensive performance, which may hasten their relegation to the Championship.

How the game unfolded

After just 13 minutes, Alisson Becker was forced into action as a sharp James Maddison split the Red’s defense open with one exquisite pass to Harvey Barnes, who then supplied Jamie Vardy. However, the angle was tight, and Alisson stopped Vardy.

But Dean Smith’s team couldn’t capitalize on their early domination, and when Liverpool started to get into the game in the second period of the first half, Klopp’s team made Leicester pay severely.

The Foxes’ high line was breached in the 33rd minute by a route-one pass from Alisson to Luis Diaz. The ball then found its way to Mohamed Salah out on the right side, where the Egyptian sent a ball inswinging to the back post, and Jones rushed in to deftly sidefoot home.

When Jones collected the ball from Salah, there was a chance that he was offside, but Jonny Evans’s outstretched heel allowed Liverpool to score their second goal, and it was so nearly three for Klopp’s fired-up players right away.

The second half

Seven minutes into the second half, Barnes attempted to bring Leicester back into the game by generating a yard of space on the outside of the box and trying to pick out the top corner, but Alisson was up to the challenge and deftly deflected his curler wide.

With the exception of that chance, Smith’s team lacked all motivation against a confident Liverpool team, who effectively ended the game in stunning fashion in the 71st minute.

After Evans lunged at Jordan Henderson, resulting in a free kick about 25 yards from the goal, Salah and Alexander-Arnold stood over the ball. After setting up to shoot, the former sent the ball back to his colleague, who used an amazing curling strike to find the top corner and give Salah his third assist of the nearly perfect evening for the club in red.

What does the result mean?

With two games left, Leicester’s 22nd top-flight defeat leaves them in 19th position in the standings, two points outside of safety. Meanwhile, Liverpool is still in fifth place, just one point ahead of Manchester United and Newcastle United despite having played one more game.

The Foxes play Newcastle at St. James’ Park in their penultimate Premier League match of the year on Monday, while Liverpool visit Aston Villa on Saturday.
