Big E was a collegiate football player at the university of IOWA. He competed in his first USA Powerlifting competition in 2010, becoming the top powerlifter by breaking all the four Florida state powerlifting records in the 275 pound class.
Competing in the Heavyweight division, Big E broke the Raw and National records in the deadlift by lifting 799 pounds. He was the winner of the 2011 USAPL Raw Nationals in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Big E decided to pursue a career in wrestling after suffering multiple injuries which ruined his dreams of becoming a professional footballer. He signed a developmental contract with WWE’s Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) in 2009 and began training.
Big E won his first wrestling championship, Florida Tag Team Championship, alongside Calvin Raines at FCW. When WWE changed FCW to NXT, Big E defeated Seth Rollins to claim the first NXT Championship. He would defend the title several times before losing it to Bo Dallas.

During his reign as the NXT champion, Big E made his WWE main roster debut on Raw episode. He appeared as a heel, joining forced with Dolph Zigler and AJ Lee to attack John Cena. Big E’s first title at WWE was the Intercontinental Championship.
Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods formed The New Day in 2014. The stable made their in-ring debut on SmackDown, defeating Curtis Axel, Titus O’Neil and Heath Slater. Since then, there has been no looking back for the trio, who have become one of the most successful tag teams in WWE history.
As part of the 2020 Draft, The New Day split and Big E was drafted to SmackDown while his colleagues were drafted to Raw. He soon defeated Sami Zayn in a lumberjack to win the Intercontinental Championship. The 37-year-old suffered an injury during a match and has been out for some time now.
