- Chelsea rendered Tuchel jobless in three minutes
- It is one of the most dramatic sacking in football history
- Stamford Bridge has perfected the art of dramatic firing of managers
In just three minutes, Thomas Tuchel was rendered jobless by Chelsea FC in what is now the most dramatic sacking in football history. September 2022 is a month he loathes. At least, he says and he is not about to forget it any time soon. Seven months later, immediate former coach Graham Potter feels the same way.
Following Potter’s sacking, football pundits argue that Stamford Bridge has perfected the art of dramatic firing of managers. One man though, is at the centre of it all. Todd Boehly, the Chelsea owner.
Despite it all, Tuchel flew back home in Germany and was lucky to land a job as the manager at Bayern Munich. In his first game against Borussia Dortmund, he broke the internet with as the world welcome him back to the football scene with a new demeanour of success.

Even with a first-match success at Bayern Munich, it was impossible for Tuchel to stay mum on what happened and his unceremonious exit from Stamford Bridge. A team he served since January 2021. In fact, the German won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup. All this is in addition to making it to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals.
Despite Tuchel serving as Stamford’s Bridge saviour during one of the club’s most trying periods, it all went to the drain on a calm September morning. He was fired following a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb. Incidentally, it was Boehly’s 100th day as the new owner.
As Tuchel spoke with Sportsmail at Bayern’s Sabener Strasse training facility, he said, his sacking came as a big a shock.
“I felt it, strangely, when I drove to the training centre. The meeting we had felt unusual – and it turned out to be a very short meeting. It was 8am, or something, and it lasted three to five minutes. I was also not in the mood to talk longer,” he said.
From the look of things, Chelsea had made a decision already and it was a shock because he felt the club was in a good position then.
“The decision had been made and, honestly, it was a shock for all of us. We had a feeling that we were in the right spot at the right time. We felt that we could achieve big things and we wanted to stay longer – it was as simple as that.”
DOES THOMAS TUCHEL HAVE MEMORIES ABOUT CHELSEA?
Spending two years at Stamford Bridge meant so much to Tuchel. He admits his infamous sacking by Chelsea still hurts ‘to some extent’. What he misses most is the great relationships he had to sacrifice with the staff and he can never get over that.
What made the relationship special is that he met most of them during the Covid pandemic and when Britain was in the Brexit whirlwind. Then there was the exit of Roman Abramovich who treated his staff like family and in came Todd Boehly, the man with two managers in less than a year since buying the club.

A major fact that contributed to Tuchel’s sacking is the purported loss of the dressing room and wearing down the players. He was accused of agitation during the club’s tour to the US in the summer of 2022 and maintained that things needed to change.
This boiled to a whole new level that eventually booked him a plane back home with the lowest of emotions. For his good name though, he keeps in touch with some of his former players. He is happy that they still have a strong bond and they send each other messages often.
On a different note, while Tuchel’s sacking by Chelsea is hurting, it gave his net worth a huge boost. According to Daily Mail, Boehly parted with $14.9 million in meeting his contractual obligation in terminating the German manager’s contract. He was worth $20 at the time and his sacking pushed his total net worth to $34.9 million.
Now, Tuchel is upbeat about Bayern’s prospects especially now that the club is in second place in the Bundesliga, a position that many club fans see as a total failure.
