Coming from a boxing family, David Benavidez began his journey in the sport when he was just three years old. As an amateur, Benavidez had a record of 15-0. He made his professional debut at the age of 16, knocking out Puerto Penasco in one round.
Benavidez won his first belt, NABF Junior light heavyweight title, after defeating Rollin Williams in April 2015. By the end of that year, he had won all of his 12 fights.
