Speaking after her victory, Rybakina said she is happy to go through to the next round.

“I’m very happy to go through. I managed to change my game in the second set. I was not rushing so much, I was not playing that fast maybe. I’m not really happy with my first serve percentage but overall it was a good match and hopefully I can continue like this.” Eurosport quotes the Russia-born Kazakhstani who made the Miami Open semi-finals with a 12th consecutive win on the WTA Tour.

Both Rybakina and Trevisan missed break points early on the match before the former finally broke in the fourth game to go up 3-1. Trevisan fought back as the game went on and got the break back with a lucky point to make things 4-3. However, Rybakina showed her class as she broke back immediately holding serve to win the set 6-3.

Things were not going as planned for Trevisan in the second set as it was all about Rybakina. The Wimbledon champion used her power to dominate the game and ensure she seals the second set to book a spot in the semis. She won all the games in the second set as it ended 6-0.

Jessica Pegula Overcomes Anastasia Potapova

Jessica Pegula survived a major scare saving two match points to beat her Russian opponent Anastasia Potapova 4-6 6-3 7-6(2). Her next opponent is Elena Rybakina.

The match between Jessica Pegula and Anastasia Potapova took two hours and 36 minutes due to multiple rain delays. It started on Tuesday night and ended on Wednesday morning.

However, that did not stop the world No. 3 from pulling off a stunning comeback against Potapova. For the second straight tournament, Jessica rallied from a set down to deny Potapova. They met at Indian Wells where she rallied by a break in the deciding set of their second rounder.

It looked like Potapova was going to win when she served at 5-4, 40-15 in the third. However, she failed to convert either of the two match points she had.

Pegula saved the first match point by teeing off a second-serve return, redirecting a forehand up the line. With the momentum on her side after managing to force a tiebreaker, the American dominated it from start to finish.

Speaking after her victory, Pegula said, “That was just absolutely a gutsy battle from both of us. A lot of respect. I really don’t know how I won. She’s playing fearless, she’s going to be a top player. In my mind, she already is.”
