Career
Joao Cancelo began his football journey with Portuguese local club Barreirense in 2002. Five years later, he joined Benfica’s youth system at the age of 13. He made his debut for Benfica senior team in July 2012 in a friendly match against Gil Vicente. He played the full 90 minutes as a right-back.
On 20 August 2014, La Liga club Valencia signed Cancelo on a season-long loan deal. Cancelo’s performance that season helped the Spanish club qualify for the Champions League and as a result, his move was made permanent.
While at Valencia, he went on loan to Inter Milan for one season. But despite his good performance, the Serie A side opted not to buy him at the end of the season.

Cancelo ended up joining Juventus in the summer of 2018, signing a five-year contract. During his time with Juventus, he helped the team win the Serie A and Supercoppa Italiana.
The Portuguese international secured a transfer to Premier League giants Manchester City in the summer of 2019. Manchester City paid an initial fee of 27.4 million Euros plus Danilo being sent to Juventus as part of Cancelo’s transfer. The amount equalled 60 million Euros, making Cancelo the most expensive right-back.
