Thomas Partey could make a comeback against Leicester

On Saturday, when Arsenal takes on Leicester City, Thomas Partey could make a comeback, and Mikel Arteta said Gabriel Jesus is “progressing well.”

Due to a muscular injury, Partey was unable to participate in the Gunners’ victories at Aston Villa and against Manchester City.

Though it’s possible that the midfielder, who has started each of the 18 league games for which he has been eligible this season, will return to the King Power Stadium this weekend as Arsenal try to maintain their lead in the standings,

“He’s a really important player for us, hopefully, he can be available.”

Jesus has been sidelined ever since he injured his knee while representing Brazil at the World Cup in December, but Arteta has offered a positive report on the striker’s recovery.

“He’s progressing really well. He’s doing more and more on the field and he’s not reacting [negatively], so that’s really positive,” Arteta said of Jesus.

“We want to have him as quickly as possible but also respect the timeframe we got from the doctor and the specialists. He’s really pushing the boundaries right now.”

Arsenal defeated Villa 4-2 after twice falling behind before the winners drew at Nottingham Forest, putting them two points ahead of City with a game in hand.

The gap between Manchester United and the Gunners is only five points, but Arteta doesn’t see a two-horse battle for the championship.

He said: “I think there are more teams involved and every day is going to be a race. Today it’s how we convince those players to train better, to play better against Leicester.

“We’re going to have to be really good to beat them, especially with the way they’ve been playing in the last few weeks.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly hoping that Granit Xhaka, William Saliba, and Aaron Ramsadle will follow winger Bukayo Saka in signing contract extensions.

The trio has played a key role in the Gunners’ outstanding start to the Premier League season, so this will excite the Emirates supporters.

In his quest to make Arsenal one of the top teams in Europe, Mikel Arteta sees this as a significant milestone.

Saka, who has established himself as one of England’s top attacking players, is getting closer to signing a new contract with the London side, as SportsLeo reported on Thursday.
