Early Life 

Martin Odegaard was born on December 17, 1998, in the city of Drammen in Norway. He is the son of former footballer Hans Erik and his wife, Lene Cecile. 

Odegaard grew up in Toppenhaug, a small quiet part of Drammen, where he began playing football at the local sports club Drammen Strong. Odegaard’s father was the team’s coach and co-founder. 

Odegaard used to spend hours training on the pitch and soon became one of the best young players in Drammen.

In 2009, he trained and played with older boys at Stromsgodset. After turning eleven, the young midfielder played his first match for the Buskerud team. He trained with Stromsgodset senior team for the first time in 2012 at the age of 13.

Career 

The heart of Martin Odegaard biography is his professional football career, which began at Stromsgodset. He made his first-team debut for the club before turning 14. 

Due to his impressive performance at a young age, Odegaard had short training visits with Manchester United and Bayern Munich. 

The midfielder officially became Stromsgodset’s first team player in January 2014. He could not train with the team in the daytime because he was still in school. Odegaard used to train with a semi-professional First Division club, Mjondalen IF, as part of the contract. 

He made his league debut for Stromsgodset on April 13, 2014, in a match against Aalesunds FK. He became the youngest footballer to play in Tippligean at the age of 15 years and 118 days. 

In December 2014, Odegaard trained with the first teams of Liverpool and Bayern Munich. He also visited Arsenal’s training ground in London. 

Real Madrid signed him from Stromsgodset in January 2015 for around 3 million euros. This was after training with the Los Blancos team.

The midfielder made his first start for the club on November 30, 2016, in a 6-1 win over Cultural Leonesa. Due to lack of playing time, Odegaard was loaned to Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad between 2017 and 2020. 

He joined Arsenal in January 2021 on loan after making it clear that he wanted to leave Real Madrid. Odegaard became one of the best players in Arsenal’s squad immediately after his arrival. 

Arsenal signed the Norwegian midfielder on a permanent deal in August 2021 for 35 million euros. The club offered him a four-year contract, which expires in 2015. 

Martin Odegaard was made Arsenal’s captain at the start of the 2022-23 season following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
