Chelsea is closing in on Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea and Benfica are almost coming to an agreement for the transfer of the World Cup Winner
Fernandez could be the fourth most expensive player in the history of football if the transfer is successful
According to reports from England, Chelsea and Benfica are close to coming to an agreement about the signing of Enzo Fernandez.
The midfielder won the Young Player Award when Argentina won their third World Cup by defeating France, becoming one of the tournament’s breakout stars.
There is a lot of interest in Fernandez’s services, and while Liverpool and Manchester United were first prominently associated with him, Chelsea is now in the lead, and a deal is anticipated to be completed soon.
According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Benfica, who had initially wanted payment in full and up front for Fernandez’s €120 million release, is reportedly willing to take a larger offer of around €130 million in exchange for Chelsea paying it over time.

Benfica has taken disciplinary action against Fernandez for skipping this week’s training sessions, but it is hoped that the transfer can be completed before their next match on January 6.
Chelsea believe a deal to make Fernandez the fourth-most expensive footballer of all time is almost complete – only Philippe Coutinho (€145m to Barcelona), Kylian Mbappe (€180m to PSG) and Neymar (€222m to PSG) will have have been transferred for more than the Argentine.
Fernandez will also become the most expensive signing in Chelsea history, eclipsing the €115m fee paid to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter in 2021 just a season and a half ago.
