Werner was speaking to the Einfach Luppen podcast when he opened up about his time in the English Premier League.
“For me, the fun of playing football is in the foreground. Of course, I had great success at Chelsea. But the fun got a bit lost in the end because I didn’t play regularly anymore.
I think the coach’s system of play didn’t suit me perfectly. That’s why it was clear to me that I wanted to take a new step. I’m at an age where I want to play as much as I can.”
Timo Werner is proud to have played for Chelsea in his career. The 26-year-old forward is still fond of the memories he has with Chelsea. Werner said he made greater achievements while playing for the Premier League giants.
“I really associate great success with Chelsea – the greatest of my career. It will always be a special club for me. I will always stay in touch with many of the players from the team.”
Timo Werner is now back at RB Leipzig, the club where he made a name for himself in the football world. The German international joined Leipzig for the first time in 2016 from VfB Stuttgart.
Werner spent four seasons with RB Leipzig, making over 120 appearances and scoring 77 goals. The pacey winger helped them to finish as runner-up in the 2018-19 DFB-Pokal. He left the Bundesliga side in 2020 as their all-time goalscorer.
Timo Werner had a successful debut season at Chelsea. He helped the team win the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League trophy. Chelsea also reached the finals of the FA Cup, where they finished as runner-up.
Werner also won the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup with The Blues. The Blues did not win any trophy last season. However, they finished as runner-up in last season’s EFL Cup and the FA title.
