Ronaldo wants to join one of the elite teams in Europe. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Manchester United failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after having a very difficult 2021-22 season. However, the Red Devils managed to qualify for the Europa League.

Cristiano Ronaldo was linked to FC Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid this summer. The Manchester United attacker was willing to take a 30% pay cut so as to join a new club.

However, all the elite clubs reportedly rejected him due to different reasons. Cristiano Ronaldo is likely going to remain at Manchester United this summer despite missing their pre-season friendlies.

This article will explain why the elite clubs rejected the Portuguese forward.

1. Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain is one of the elite clubs that can offer Cristiano Ronaldo Champions League football next season. The Parisians also have the financial muscles to afford Cristiano Ronaldo’s wages.

PSG rejected Cristiano because they need long-term players. According to the club’s president Nasser Al Khelaifi, the club wants to sign players who will stay there for a long time. Cristiano Ronaldo does not fit PSG’s idea because he can only sign a short-term contract.

The Parisians would have been unstoppable next season if they had signed Cristiano Ronaldo. A team with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr. and Cristiano Ronaldo in the attack is a threat to many opposition teams.

2. FC Bayern Munich

FC Bayern Munich is one of the best teams in Europe. The Bundesliga giants also had the opportunity of signing Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Bayern reportedly turned down the offer from Jorge Mendes.

Bayern Munich publicly stated that Cristiano Ronaldo was not part of their plans. According to Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn, Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player, but he does not fit in the club’s philosophy in the current situation.

Cristiano Ronaldo would have played a huge role in filling the gap left behind by Robert Lewandowski, who joined FC Barcelona this summer. However, the German club decided to go for Sadio Mane.

3. Chelsea

Chelsea will be in the UEFA Champions League next season. The Blues would have signed Cristiano Ronaldo because they lack a good attacker like the Portuguese.

The two times UEFA Champions League winners were linked to Ronaldo several weeks ago. However, several media outlets later reported that Cristiano Ronaldo would not join the London club because he was not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans. The German manager is not fond of Cristiano Ronaldo.

4. Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid is the most recent elite club that has been linked to the Manchester United attacker. However, Atletico Madrid also turned down the offer of signing Cristiano.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes met with Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin to discuss a potential move for the Portuguese attacker. Mendes told Gil Marin that Ronaldo was willing to take a pay cut so as to join them. However, the move could not happen because of Atletico Madrid’s financial woes.

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo later said during the presentation of Nahuel Molina that the club would not make any other signing this summer.

Some Atletico Madrid fans did not want Cristiano Ronaldo to join their club. They made a statement in which they clearly stated that the former Real Madrid star should not be part of their history.
