Police arrest suspect in football fan Isaac Juma murder

A 27-year old man has been arrested by Police in Mumias in relation to the gruesome murder of renowned football fan Isaac Juma. Juma was butchered to death by a group of assailants in his home, a few minutes after 9pm on Wednesday.

His death, which caught whirlwind in social circles on Thursday morning sent the football world into shock.

The man arrested by police has been identified as Milton Namatsi with police saying he was rounded up at his house after being directly linked with the murder. He will be arraigned in court on Friday even as police speed up investigations on the issue.

According to various sources, Juma was murdered allegedly by associates of close family members over a land dispute.

Information from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations states that children who were taking their supper outside the house had reported seeing silhouettes of human beings lurking against the fence.

They went back to the house and reported to their parents who took the matter lightly. Moments later, they heard a commotion in the sheep pen and immediately afterwards the sheep began bleating, prompting Juma and his 17-year-old son to dash outside.

However, before they could establish what was happening, a group of men armed with machetes attacked them, hacking Juma to death.

His 17-year old son however managed to cheat death narrowly, by escaping to the farm.

Juma’s death has shocked the nation with leaders of all walks of life coming out to post their condolence messages all over social media.

“I am saddened by the death of our @AFCLeopards & @Harambee__Stars ardent fan, Isaac Juma. The late was an ever-present face on the terraces working up fans and his energy was a motivation to the boys in the pitch. May his family, friends and relatives find peace, as his soul RIP,” Former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi, also the AFC Leopards patron said.

The 58-year old lived in Nakuru for majority of his life where he was a newspaper vendor. His images were splashed all over whenever the national team, or his beloved AFC Leopards played.

He however retreated back to his rural home in Mumias, Kakamega County and was mostly seen around the Mumias Sports Complex and Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega to watch matches.
