Chris Wood has all it takes and is the reason why Newcastle needs him to survive. Paul Merson has openly named Newcastle’s next three Premier League fixtures as being pivotal to their survival hopes, starting with the Saturday’s ‘cup final’ at home against their fellow strugglers Watford
Burnley striker Chris Wood looks forward for the medical at the St James’ Park on Wednesday before the clubs makes a £25m move to New Zealand international and Newcastle. The international striker remains the only hope and sort of player the Magpies need to move away from the relegation zone, following what Paul Merson has outlined about the player.
Eddie Howe’s side – unfortunately lost 1-0 at home to League One Cambridge United in the FA Cup last weekend and are currently second last in the Premier League having only won once all season, two points from safety, and they look forward to facing their fellow strugglers Watford at home in a crucial match on Saturday.
It however emerges that the top scorer Callum Wilson has been sidelined for the next eight weeks following a calf injury he sustained when they played against Manchester United. Newcastle who have already signed England right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid -have triggered Wood’s release clause at Turf Moor.Basing at the current situation Newcastle is in at the moment, it has remained a make-or-break time for Newcastle with the immediate need to have to a center forward in.
Paul Merson agrees with the decision ahead of what the former Arsenal and England forward calls Newcastle’s “cup final” against 17th-placed Watford this weekend, pundit labeling the club’s next three fixtures against Watford, Leeds and Everton as being so important to their survival hopes this term.

The clause of Burnley striker Chris Wood, has been met by Newcastle thought to be in the region of £20m.They have to make good use of the opportunity with hopes that someone can hit the ground running keeping in mind that Wood is not prolific but he plays every week for Burnley as well in the Premier League. However he is believed to understand exactly what this league is about and you know he will well fit in this league.
It’s not going to be a shock to him, and he will run through a brick wall for you. That is what Newcastle need. They need the likes of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood. They have the need to embrace players who are going to roll their sleeves up and not come in and be shocked how fast the Premier League is.
The decision by Newcastle new signing Chris Wood could prove vital to the Magpies’ survival, especially if he can make a good connection with other new signing Kieran Trippier. Callum Wilson was forced off with an injury against Manchester United.
The most dangerous part of it is Wilson may be back in eight weeks, but the team cannot wait until he becomes fit. There is need to bring someone else in but if you bring someone in to step in for Wilson before he embarks.
Mark Schwarzer has been open to give his thoughts as to whether Newcastle United’s potential new signings would be enough to keep them in the Premier League this season even as time runs out for Newcastle. The club need a striker who can play against Watford on Saturday and bring in more impact and influence to the team. They cannot wait until after the game on Saturday. This is a cup final for Newcastle and that is why their panic is firmly on the needful to bring in a forward.

Newcastle may not be in a good position to win the match against Watford on Saturday if they do not embrace the need to bring in someone else in the forward. Trippier is a good player who will roll his sleeves up and that is what you want, but they are not where they are in the table because of the right-back. We never sit and watch Newcastle and moan that they haven’t got a right-back.
Newcastle’s hope and strength is among the next three games. The next three games against Watford, Everton and Leeds are winnable bearing in mind that they have only managed to win one game all the season and they have been beaten by Cambridge, but the next three games are the sort of games they need to win so they may secure a good chance for survival.
