High rising KCB pile more misery on Francis Kimanzi’s Wazito

KCB players celebrate their goal against Wazito FC FKF Premier League match at the Kasarani Stadium

A goal in either half from Derrick Otanga saw KCB beat Wazito FC 2-0 at the Kasarani Stadium on Friday and pile more pressure on the team and their coach Francis Kimanzi.

Despite spending highly on transfers in pre-season, Wazito are yet to clinch a victory after six matches and the loss against the bankers on Friday was their fourth in six games. Wazito have only managed two points from draws this season.

“I think we are still trying to get our rhythm and sometimes things just don’t work out for us. We have done so many things well today but our problem came in the final third when we couldn’t convert chances. I would be worried if we were not creating the chances. Now it is just a matter of putting them into the net and that is something we can work on,” said the coach.

KCB on their end picked up the third consecutive victory continuing with their rise after a slow start to the season.

“We started slow because of the turnaround period between last season and this season. The time was so short and that is why we struggled a bit. But now I can see that we have picked up pace and we need to continue being consistent from here moving forward,” said the tactician.

KCB were heads over heels above Wazito from the first whistle and got into the lead after just four minutes.

Otanga placed himself well at the edge of the box to strike in a wonderful shot into the roof of the net after a cutback from skipper Simon Abuko. Otanga had scored just a minute after wasting another glorious chance, dribbling his way into the box but his final shot being blocked.

The bankers were playing with pace and often caught Wazito flat on their guard. They almost had a second in the 17th minute but James Mazembe shot wide when another cutback, this time from left back Dennis Odhiambo, found him well placed at the edge of the box.

On the other end, Wazito had two back to back chances, both falling on Vincent Oburu but he couldn’t convert. In the first instance, he did well to run into a cross from Rodney Onyango, but his connecting shot was wide from close range.

He had a second chance to atone for the miss when he picked out a pass from Eric Otieno but his low shot rolled straight into keeper Gabriel Andika’s arms.

The bankers continued their press and had another opportunity off a dead ball when Robinson Kamura curled a freekick beyond the wall, but Wazitos’debutant Ugandan keeper Ibrahim Ssekagya collected with ease.

Under pressure, Wazito just but held on to trail 1-0 at the break.

When they thought they would have a reprieve in the second half, it was the bankers who would get more control of the game. They doubled their tally just eight minutes after the restart off a well executed counter attack.

Henry Onyango beat Maurice Ojwang to the ball before pacing into the box. He unselfishly cut the ball back for Otanga to tap home into an empty net for his second of the day.

Wazito were almost caught out on another classic counter, but this time Onyango was unfortunate to miscontrol the ball when he was well away on his heels.

Mazembe came close again and should have made it 3-0 for the bankers in the 62nd minute but his well taken volley from the left evaded the target by a whisker. Wazito made changes, James Kinyanjui and Tyson Otieno all coming on to add the attacking options for kimanzi’s side, but the couldn’t get a goal.

Musa Masika, making his first start of the season twice had chances but on one occasion took too much time on the ball and on the second shot over the bar.
