PSG Eyeing Zinedine Zidane As Pochettino’s Replacement

Zinedine Zidane

Former French player and ex-Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is one of the great minds being considered as a replacement for PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino.

He is reportedly said to have a great rapport with PSG’s Lionel Messi. His joining the French Ligue 1 club would be an added benefit.

Okdiario’s chief pundit Eduardo Inda cites that Pochettino’s future in PSG hangs by the thread following his substitution on Messi last weekend when PSG played Lyon.

This move reportedly did not sit very well with Messi and some top echelons in PSG.

Inda now reports that PSG is seriously considering Zidane as the next coach for the team.

They have been in talks since August with the view of replacing the Argentine coach.

“Pochettino may come out soon. PSG’s plan B would be Zidane, with whom they spoke last August,” he said on El Chiringuito.

Zidane, going by reports, resisted this move by PSG citing that his priority is coaching France ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

But, PSG is adamant saying that they will allow him to take up the two roles together.

“He resists because he wants to coach France, but at PSG they reminded him that the next World Cup in Qatar is within the season and they would let him combine the two jobs.”

Messi who appeared dissatisfied by Pochettino’s decision to substitute him had to walk off the pitch in the second half.

PSG’s game against Lyon was only 15 minutes away from ending when Mauricio made the call. Messi was replaced by Achraf Hakimi.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner did not shake Pochettino’s hand as he walked to the bench.

However, the Ligue 1 giants still won the match against Lyon thanks to Mauro Icardi header.

Pochettinop defended his decision to bench Messi in the second half of the game. He said that “The decisions in the game are made for the good of the team and each player.”

He said he asked Messi if he was all right with the substitution and he responded in the affirmative.
