Al Ahly and Wydad prepare for Champions League battle

Al Ahly and Wydad prepare for Champions League battle - Sports Leo

It will be Egypt against Morocco on Friday evening when Egypt’s Al Ahly take on Wydad AC in the African Champions League semi-finals at the Cairo International Stadium.

Coming into the contest, the sides have faced each other on nine occasions in the Champions League. Coach Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly has recorded three wins, Wydad two, while the sides have drawn four times.

The Egyptian giants Al Ahly, however, are unbeaten in their last eight Champions League matches with five wins and three draws.

Al Ahly are also unbeaten against Wydad in their last four home Champions League contests. To make matters worse for Wydad, Al Ahly are also unbeaten in their last 27 home Champions League clashes.

Since the start of the 2017 Champions League campaign, Al Ahly’s Ali Maâloul has been directly involved in more goals than any other player with eight goals and nine assists.

In contrast, Wydad have lost their last two Champions League matches. However, Wydad have never lost three in a row in the competition.

Wydad’s away record, though, is cause for concern with no wins in their last eight matches – with four losses and four draws.

Playing away to Al Ahly does not read much better for Wydad – as they have drawn three and lost one.

Wydad have scored only one goal in their last three Champions League away trips to Al Ahly, although that goal did come in their most recent encounter.
