PSL suspend and fine Sundowns player Gastón Sirino - Sports Leo

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee (DC) has punished Mamelodi Sundowns and their player Gastón Sirino who found guilty of misconduct on several charges.

Mamelodi Sundowns were found guilty of bringing the League in disrepute while Gastón Sirino was found guilty of assaulting two SuperSport United players, Dean Furman and Clayton Daniels.

The DC has ruled that:

Mamelodi Sundowns is ordered to pay a fine R200 000 of which R150 000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension.

2. Gastón Sirino is ordered to serve a two-match suspension.

3. Gastón Sirino is ordered to pay a fine of R75 000 of which R25 000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension.

4. Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Gastón Sirino are ordered to pay the several sittings of the Disciplinary Committee.

Sundowns were second on the SA Premiership log when the further competition was halted in March. due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Sundowns had accrued 44 points from 21 matches, to sit four points behind table-toppers Kaizer Chiefs. Sundowns, however, had a game in hand.

Interestingly, the weekend marked – Saturday to be precise – a year to the day since Sundowns were crowned SA Premiership champions on the final day of the season.

The PSL and the SA Football Association were scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss ways in which competition can be resumed in the future.
