  • He has been announced as the New West Ham’s manager
  • Before his appointment at West Ham, he was managing Wolverhampton Wanderers
  • He won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2016

Julen Lopetegui has opened a new chapter at West Ham United as their new manager. He is a big name in the football world having managed seven football clubs and winning the Europa League with Sevilla.

He is known for his ability to help the players achieve their goals and this will be vital in West Ham’s squad. He also has vast experience with managing different clubs and this could help him in analyzing his players to what suits them best.

He is now joining a Premier League club that is quite demanding compared to La Liga to the Championship and balancing their aspirations will help him in his management. He is nothing short of achievements as it has been with his past clubs and being the West Ham manager, they must have weighed options on his performance base and found him the right candidate for the position.

Julen past managerial career

After he retired from playing professional football, he had a transition to coaching and in the early years of his career, he managed Spain’s U17, U19 and U21 teams, winning the U19 European championship and the U21 European championship for two consecutive years.

He then joined Portuguese giants FC Porto and his tenure was successful, guiding them to second place in the Primeira Liga and a Champions League quarter-final appearance in his first season.

His reputation went far and wide, earning him a head coach position with the Spanish national team, where he previously managed their U17, U19 and U21 teams leading them to multiple victories.

Heading the Spanish team, he led them through a successful qualification campaign for the 2018 World Cup but his tenure was cut short due to an agreement to join Real Madrid. However, his signing at Real Madrid went south and he was sacked four months later.

He found solace at Sevilla and this was a career-changing experience leading the team to a fourth-place finish in La Liga and a Europa League victory in 2020. This was followed by a short stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

He managed to keep Wolverhampton out of the relegation zone but that did not determine his stay at the club. His newest chapter was recently announced that he will be the new manager of Premier League club West Ham United.

Julen’s appointment at West Ham and the challenges he is likely to face?

He previously managed a Premier League club on a short stint and this could be one of the biggest challenges ahead since he is leading one of the best teams in the world, which is bound to face fierce competition and maintain a consistent performance.

While the club has a talented squad, his play style might differ from the La Liga clubs that he managed previously and will have to adapt to their tactics and find ways to motivate the players to fit into his system.

In the recent seasons, West Ham has shown ambition and balancing these aspirations with a transition period under Lopetegui will be crucial as he is expected to deliver success immediately, while he might need time to implement his ideas.

He needs to maintain the club’s past of performance or better it to earn the trust of the fans. So overall, he has a lot that he needs to do to keep the club’s fire burning.

Julen Lopetegui’s managerial achievements

The Spanish football manager is a legend in management of football clubs, the most prestigious one being leading Sevilla in the Europa League in 2016, as they defeated Liverpool in the final., a win that established his success in European competitions.
