Paris Saint-Germain’s disappointment in the Champions League continued last night as they suffered defeat during the PSG vs Dortmund clash.

Borussia Dortmund produced a fine away performance on Tuesday night that saw them hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg and then add another goal in the second leg of the semi-final to reach this season’s UEFA Champions League final.

Last night’s only goal was scored by Mats Hummels after rising highest in the box to meet Julian Brandt’s corner shortly after the restart.

PSG created several chances afterwards but were unlucky as some of their shots hit the post while others went directly into the goalkeeper’s arms. It was a disappointing night for PSG who have never been European champions as they were again knocked out of Europe’s elite club competition.

Kylian Mbappe played his final Champions League match for PSG and will be disappointed because the campaign has once again ended in defeat. The closest the Parisians came close to winning the prestigious UEFA Champions League title was in 2020 when they reached the final but suffered defeat in the hands of Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund are aiming to become European champions for the second time in their history after clinching the 1997 in final. Dortmund will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in this year’s final at Wembley Stadium.

The first leg of the semi-final between Bayern and Madrid ended 2-2 in Munich and the two sides will meet tonight in the second leg to determine who advances.

How The PSG Vs Dortmund Match Unfolded

Borussia Dortmund have had a disappointing domestic campaign and they currently sit fifth on the Bundesliga table. However, they have been totally different playing in Europe and after managing a 1-0 win over PSG at home, they travelled to Paris with the aim of progressing to the final.

In a wonderful evening at the Parc des Princes, Dortmund’s side that included Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho and Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen produced a superb team performance.

PSG were in control of possession from the early stages of the PSG vs Dortmund clash but the visitors looked very dangerous on counter attacks.

Achraf Hakimi led the charge from the right wing and threw in crosses into the box with the aim of finding Goncalo Ramos and Kylian Mbappe who was on the left wing. The Frenchman, who is known for his fast feet, was somehow kept anonymous by Dortmund’s solid defence that was led by Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck.

The only time Mbappe looked dangerous in the first half was when he dribbled past three Dortmund players and fed Ousmane Dembele with a brilliant pass only for the former Barcelona man to fire well over the bar from close range.

Dortmund responded to that by starting their own attack that ended by Karim Adeyemi shooting straight at Gianluigi Donnarumma with only the goalie to beat after an impressive run.

PSG came back looking stronger after the restart and Warren Zaire-Emery should have given his side the lead when the ball bounced on his path when on a very promising position. However, the 18-year-old ended up hitting the outside of the post.

When it seemed as if PSG were going to take the lead considering their flurry of attacks, it was Dortmund who actually found the back of the net first. Julian Brandt’s well taken corner was met by Hummels who headed home to put the visitors 2-0 up on aggregate.

From there, it was a total lockdown in Dortmund’s defence and they successfully managed to prevent conceding a goal up to the last second of the PSG vs Dortmund tie.
