  • Kipchoge is seeking to win three titles in a row
  • Benson Kipruto and Alex Munyao complete the team
  • Hellen Obiri, Brigid Kosgei in women’s team

Defending champion Eliud Kipchoge and recently crowned Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri headline Kenya’s final team named for the Paris Olympic Games.

Athletics Kenya have named a hugely strong team for the French capital, having earlier narrowed down the initial list to five.

Kipchoge, who is seeking to become the first man to win three back to back Olympic Games titles is joined in the team by recently crowned London Marathon champion Alex Munyao, who showed his grit, determination and form to battle a classy field in the British capital and win his first ever marathon.

Reigning Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto has also been named in the final team of three, which has 2022 Melbourne Marathon winner Timothy Kiplangat as a reserve.

The women’s team will be headlined by on-form Obiri, who was in the last Olympic Games competing in the women’s 10,00m where she won silver. Her transition to road running has been massively successful, and will now look to win a first world title in marathon.

World record holder Peres in Olympics team

She is joined in the team by defending champion Peres Jepchirchir who just 10 days ago broke the women’s only marathon world record at the London Marathon. Peres will be looking to win back to back titles at the Olympic Games.

Tokyo Olympic Games silver medalist Brigid Kosgei has also been named in the final team, with USA-based Sharon Lokedi named as a reserve athlete.
