German international Mesut Ozil is set to miss out on Arsenal’s Europa League squad when it is announced on Thursday.
The former Real Madrid playmaker has not featured for the Premier League side since March and his future at the club has remained in limbo.
According to manager Mikel Arteta, it has been “very difficult” for Ozil to find some game time in the club.
According to Sky Sports, Arteta reckoned that “The team is evolving, you can see the level they are achieving.
“This is where we are at the moment. We want to evolve more and play better and compete better.
“We need to keep maintaining that.
“I’m really happy with the performance here, how difficult they’re making things for the coaching staff to select the squad.”
Since the return of Arteta to the club on a managerial capacity, he has rebuilt a competitive side in the English top-flight league.
The Arsenal legend has shown faith in the young stars by giving them more game time to maintain their sharpness and grow.
Under his ranks, the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka have improved their professional game level and proved worthy for more playtime.
Dani Ceballos has also proved his qualities and flourished under the new tactics of the Arsenal manager.
Ozil was rumoured to leave the Emirates following the lack of game time but Arsenal have not received any offers for the Word-Cup winner.
Moreover, his hefty wages prove to be an obstacle to potential suitors who could be interested in the midfielder.
Arsenal have flourished without Ozil having won the FA Cup and Community Shield without Ozil which would only mean an exit for the German player is imminent.
The North London club will kick off their Europa League Group B campaign against Rapid Vienna on October 22.
