Manchester City have at least some positive news to look back into after their star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne was named the Player of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.

The 29-year-old bagged the annual award after a stunning individual performance despite his club having a rather dull campaign.

Just off from being dumped out of the Champions League race in the semi-finals by Olympic Lyon, De Bruyne was crowned the winner of the annual award.

Despite scoring for the Citizens, De Bruyne could not help much as City were bundled out in a 3 1 defeat to the French Ligue 1 side.

The Belgian international beat Premier League champions trio of Trent-Alexander Arnold, captain Jordan Henderson and Senegalese international Sadio Mane to bag the accolade.

Other nominees include Leicester City’s striker Jamie Vardy – who bagged the Golden boot award of the season with 23 goals, Southampton’s Danny Ings and Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Former Manchester City defender Richard Dunne has described De Bruyne as the “ideal” central midfielder.

Since arriving at the Etihad in 2015, De Bruyne has displayed stellar performances for the team and helped the Manchester Blue side win trophies.

He recorded 20 assists – equalling the league record set by Thierry Henry in 2003 – as well as netting 13 times to help City finish as the division’s highest scorers for the third successive season.
