The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) on Thursday announced a three-year distribution partnership with Nike across the region and other specific territories.
The partnership allows for Cosafa and its member associations to benefit commercially from the sale of team product kits.
Nike brings its leading innovation to the partnership including performance apparel made with Dri-Fit technology which assists in improving athlete performance by keeping athletes dry and cool. Nike will also supply match balls for all Cosafa tournaments.
Cosafa marketing officer Lunga Thomas said: “Concluding such a milestone partnership at this time amid the global pandemic (COVID-19) pays testimony to the Cosafa brand, we are very excited by this new venture with Nike.”
Chairman of Cosafa Commercial Standing Committee Walter Nyamilandu-Manda said: “It is critical in the current economic climate that Cosafa is strategic in its approach towards securing revenue streams in order to fund its operations whilst at the same time providing benefits to its Member Associations. We believe this partnership with Nike can be a game-changer for our region.”
Cosafa is recognised by both Federation of International Football Associations (Fifa) and Confederation of African Football (Caf) for its consistent efforts over the years towards development, currently organising six annual tournaments from senior men and women to junior boys and girls.
Meanwhile, Cosafa said hosting major competitions during the remainder of 2020 remains in doubt, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Cosafa was due to host six competitions this year, including senior, Under-20 and Under-17 events for both men and women.
That is looking increasingly more challenging as the months roll on and uncertainty remains over cross-border travel between Cosafa countries.
