Growing up, Daniel Cormier had a passion for wrestling and soon started training in amateur wrestling. He went on to win three state championships in high school. He then began a senior career career in freestyle wrestling and won six consecutive gold medals at the US National Championship and the Olympics in 2004 and 2008.

Daniel Cormier decided to pursue a career in MMA afterwards and started his professional journey by defeating Gary Frazier at Strikeforce Challengers. The future UFC champion won the fight via TKO. He went on to amass a record of 11-0 before joining the UFC.
