Career

Being Burkina born, he started playing youth football with ASF Bobo-Diolulasso then moved to Auxerre’s academy where he only stayed for one season.

He proceeded to Chelsea Academy the following year and was educated at the Whitgift School but unfortunately, he was not lucky to be part of the senior team due to visa restrictions.

He made his debut on loan at Vitesse in the Eredivisie and after a season in the Premier League with Chelsea, he was loaned back to Netherlands, for club Ajax and later signed for club Lyon at a fee of $11 million.

As a full international for 15 years, Traore represented Burkina Faso at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

He schooled at Chelsea Academy though he missed a chance to join the senior team and had appeared for the youth team in a six-week trial. Therefore, he made his debut as a trialist in a friendly match against Singha All-Stars.

The player then signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea’s senior team.

In the same month after joining Chelsea’s senior team, he was signed on a loan for Eredivisie side Vitesse where he performed very well and received a work permit to play for Chelsea.

Traore signed a new contract with Chelsea for three years and immediately joined Ajax on a season-long loan. While at Ajax, he signed for Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais on a five-year contract at a fee of $11 million with add-ons.
