  • Chelsea have had a troublesome season and are sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table
  • There are two matches left to play and the Blues will be out of European competitions next season
  • Interim manager Frank Lampard has questioned the commitment of some players in the first-team squad

Chelsea interim manager, Frank Lampard, has expressed his belief that not all members of the first-team squad have performed up to their potential throughout the season.

It is almost certain that Chelsea will finish the 2022/23 Premier League campaign in the bottom half of the table, marking a disappointing season under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

The popular manager Thomas Tuchel was dismissed in September 2022 and replaced by Graham Potter from Brighton. However, Potter struggled to achieve positive results with an excessively large squad and was also relieved of his duties in April.

Lampard returned to Chelsea as a caretaker manager until the end of the season but has faced difficulties, winning only one out of his eight games in charge and enduring six consecutive losses.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash pitting Manchester City vs Chelsea, Lampard acknowledged that he has observed determination and hunger from certain members of the squad. However, he also emphasized the need for others to demonstrate the same desire and commitment.

From Lampard’s perspective, players have two options when faced with challenging circumstances: they can shy away from the difficulty or use it as an opportunity to showcase their abilities and make a positive impact on the game.

Lampard stated that some players have shown this fighting spirit, while he awaits a response from others. He mentioned that the upcoming fixtures against the top four teams, with two of them being away matches, will be demanding and will require the squad to step up.

After the clash with Manchester City, Chelsea will face Manchester United away and host Newcastle United in their final matches of the season.

It has been confirmed that Chelsea has reached an agreement with Mauricio Pochettino to become their new permanent head coach, indicating a new chapter for the club under his leadership.
