- Tusker beat Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 over the weekend
- They are now two points behind leaders Gor Mahia
- There are five matches left before the season ends
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has said he wants his side to be more ruthless in attack in the run in towards the FKF Premier League title.
The brewers won 1-0 against Kakamega Homeboyz in their last match last weekend, but the tactician was disappointed with the number of chances lost by his side.
“We are doing well and bounced back really positively after that loss to Nzoia. We however have to be more clinical in our finishing because we create so many chances but we don’t score. Sometimes, you can be punished because of that,” the tactician noted.
He added; “Our defending has really improved and we are now keeping more clean sheets. Now we just need to be efficient in scoring. I believe we have a good team with good depth.”
Mike Oduor scored for the brewers in the win over Homeboyz, his goal at the stroke of halftime being enough to bag all three points.
Delighted with tally
“I am delighted to have added my tally of goals because when I came in, there was a target that I had set and I am glad that I am getting closer to them. It was a really tough game for us and coming off with maximum points is a huge thing for the team,” Oduor said after the game.

The former KCB man, signed in mid-season took a volley from the edge of the area and it dinked between the keeper’s legs to give Tusker the three points.
They had more chances against Homeboyz and should have added to their tally. Deogratious Ojok and substitute Eric Otieno were guilty of missing the best chances fir the brewers.
Homeboyz
They are now just two points behind leaders Gor Mahia, who were held to a barren draw by Wazito FC in Muhoroni. Gor Mahia coach, just like Tusker’s Matano, lamented on missed chances.
Take chances in tough games
“On such tough game it usually takes just a chance or two to win the game and unluckily we couldn’t take advantage of the best that we have had. These are two points dropped but we raise our heads and focus on the next game,” said the tactician.
Gor are yet to play Tusker and if the brewers win this match and go on to record victories in the rest of their games this season, the title will remain in Ruaraka.
This weekend, Tusker has a chance to move top of the table when they play Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday. A win will take them to 63 points, one above Gor who face AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday.
With three games then left and a meeting between the two sides yet to take place, the title run in is set to be hotly contested.
Tusker are also in the semi-final of the FKF Cup and are seeking a season double.
