Early life
Wout Weghorst was born in Borne, Netherlands on 7th August 1992 to his mother, Astrid Weghorst and father, Frans Weghorst.
Weghorst began his football career by enrolling in the youth program and playing with the neighbourhood club RKSV NEO. Following some time at the club, he transferred to DETO Twenterand, a team that plays in the regional Eerste Klasse division. He gained knowledge and played some competitive football with his new club. Later, he agreed to a contract with Willem II of the Eredivisie. He gained experience and saw his game flourish while serving in the youth ranks of three teams, but he was still not promoted to the senior team, so he transferred to FC Emmen in the Eerste Divisie.

Weghorst made his senior team debut on August 10, 2012, in a 1-1 draw against Dordrecht after joining FC Emmen. He performed admirably in his first game, earning a spot in the team for the following games. A month later, he scored his first goal against Veendam. His goal helped Emmen upset the latter by a score of 2-1.
Weghorst secured a contract with Eredivisie team Heracles Almelo on a free transfer after his time with Emmen.
Weghorst joined AZ in July 2016 under a four-year deal with an option for an additional year after a successful season with Heracles. On November 24, 2016, he scored his first goal in Europe, which ended up being the game-winning goal in a 0-1 victory over Irish team Dundalk in a UEFA Europa League group encounter.
Weghorst got off to a strong start in the 2017–18 campaign, scoring 7 goals in his first 13 starts.
Weghorst agreed to a four-year contract with Bundesliga team VfL Wolfsburg on June 26, 2018. In a 5-2 league victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf on March 16, 2019, he netted his first hat-trick for Wolfsburg, the first for the team since Mario Gómez did it in April 2017. With 17 goals at the end of his first season in Germany, he tied for third place in the 2018–19 Bundesliga scoring list.
Weghorst agreed to a three-and-a-half-year deal worth £12 million on January 31, 2022, with English Premier League team Burnley. On February 5 at Turf Moor, Weghorst made his club debut, playing the entire 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Watford. Weghorst scored the club’s first goal in a 3-0 victory over Brighton
Weghorst signed a loan agreement with Super Lig team Beşiktaş on July 5, 2022, and was to play there through the 2022–23 campaign.
His loan to Beşiktaş was cancelled in January in favour of a loan to Premier League club, Manchester United, with a £3 million loan fee shared between Burnley and Beşiktaş. Weghorst joined United on a temporary basis for the end of the campaign on January 13. He inherited the shirt with the number 27 that Alex Telles had most recently worn. He got started in a 1-1 away tie against Crystal Palace on January 18 to mark his debut.

On October 14, 2014, Weghorst made his under-21 team debut for the Netherlands, scoring against Portugal in a 5-4 loss.
In March 2018, Ronald Koeman’s first Dutch team gave him his first full international call-up. On March 23 in the Amsterdam Arena, he made his senior international debut against England in a friendly match.
Weghorst scored against Ukraine in the Netherlands’ opening group game after being named to the team for UEFA Euro 2020.
Weghorst was selected in November 2022 to represent the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He appeared as a late substitute in the quarterfinal game against Argentina and scored two goals.
