Former Spain and FC Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has revealed that he would like to coach a Premier League team.

According to Enrique, who has been out of job since leaving the Spain national team, he follows Premier League games because his dream is to work there. The 52-year-old was speaking to the Spanish radio station Cadena after returning from Cape epic cycle ride in South Africa.

But despite his interest, Luis Enrique is yet to receive offers from English teams. Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace have a clear vacancy but they are yet to contact the Spain international.

Luis Enrique, however, stressed that he would only go to a team that is capable of doing important things.

“I follow above all the Premier [League] because I would like to go to England to work. I wouldn’t go to any team but to one that could do important things, which greatly reduces the number. I don’t put my hopes up, really, because there are many candidates.” ESPN quotes Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique further revealed that he has had offers from some national teams. However, he is reluctant in taking over another national team because he would have to be ‘strong’ to play against Spain. The former Barcelona coach squashed rumours that he is likely to take over as Brazil’s coach because no one has contacted him.

Luis Enrique left Spain four-and-a-half years after he was first appointed. He took the job after Spain exited the 2018 World Cup tournament in the round of 16.

During his time with the La Roja, he guided them to a semi-final finish at the Euro 2020. He revealed he was stepping down from the national team after their World Cup exit in the round of 16. Personal issues forced him to take a leave from football for nine months in 2019.

Which Premier League Team Will Luis Enrique Go To?

Luis Enrique has been linked to the Tottenham Hotspur job. However, ESPN reports that former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has been identified by Tottenham as a perfect replacement for Antonio Conte.

Enrique has also been linked with the Chelsea job in the past. However, Graham Potter succeeded in keeping his job despite Chelsea’s struggles this season.

The Sun reports that Luis Enrique could take over as Manchester City boss despite Pep Guardiola signing a contract extension. Guardiola extended his stay with the Cytizens until 2025 but reports suggest that he may decide to take another sabbatical from football like he did during the 2012/13 season.

If Guardiola decides to leave, Manchester City will go for fellow Spaniard Luis Enrique. Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s director of football, is allegedly a big fan of Enrique and believes he will play the same attractive attacking football as Pep Guardiola.
