Ricardo Kaka began his professional football career at Sao Paulo, making his senior debut on February 1, 2001. He scored 10 goals in 27 appearances in his debut season, leading Sao Paulo to its first and only Torneio Rio-Sao Paulo championship. He scored two goals as a substitute in the final as Sao Paulo beat Botafogo 2-1.
Kaka continued with his impressive performance the following season, attracting interests from top European clubs. In 2003, he joined Serie A side AC Milan for 8 million euros. In his first month, Kaka had already established himself as a regular starter in the AC Milan squad.
The Brazilian playmaker left AC Milan after six years in which he won the Serie A, Supercoppa Italiana and the UEFA Champions League. He also won the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. It was during his time with AC Milan that he won the Ballon d’or.

Kaka joined Real Madrid for a reported fee of 68.5 million euros and signed a six-year contract. Things didn’t go well with him at Real Madrid as expected mainly because of injuries. However, he left after winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana.
The attacking midfielder returned to AC Milan where he spent one season before joining Orlando City. During his time with Orlando City, he had a spell with his boyhood club Sao Paulo before announcing his retirement from professional football.
