Royal Antwerp, where Overmars is currently director of football, confirmed the reports and said that he is currently doing fine.

“Marc Overmars, director of football affairs at RAFC, became unwell last night and was admitted to hospital with a mild stroke. Marc is doing well in the meantime but will have to take it easy for a while. Marc and his family focus on his recovery and do not wish to comment further. RAFC wishes Marc a speedy recovery.” A statement by Royal Antwerp on Twitter reads.

Marc Overmars joined Royal Antwerp in March after exiting Ajax in a shameful manner. The 49-year-old winger was director of football at Ajax for the past ten years.

However, he had to step down from the position after being accused of sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues. He even sent a photo of his genitals to one of his colleagues.

Marc admitted that the allegations were true and then stepped down as Ajax chief in disgrace. The legendary winger apologized for his ‘stupid’ actions.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that I was crossing the line with this, but that was made clear to me in recent days. I apologize. Certainly, for someone in my position, this behaviour is unacceptable. I now see that, but it is too late. I see no other option but to leave Ajax.” Marc Overmars aid as he was leaving Ajax, according to The Mirror

Immediately after Marc Overmars joined Royal Antwerp, four sponsors left the club. However, the Belgian side has decided to stand by his side.

Marc Overmars has already helped Royal Antwerp sign former Tottenham Hotspur players Vincent Janssen and Toby Alderweireld.
