Angola off to flying start in Futsal Africa Cup of Nations - Sports Leo

Angola started their campaign at the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations on a positive note, beating Mozambique 7-4 in a thrilling Group B match in Laayoune on Wednesday.

Two own goals from Jose Da Silva Uetimane and Abilio Levessene added on to a brace from Emanuel Filemon and individual strikes by Felipe Gomes, Leandro Muhongo and Joao Cambangula. Da Silva struck a hattrick for the Mozambicans with Mario Jona Junior adding the fourth.

Angola got into the business early, getting into a healthy 2-0 lead within the first nine minutes. Muhongo broke the deadlock with a well-taken shot from the right before Da Silva turned the ball into his own net as he tried to cut out a cross from Magno Felipe Gomes.

The Mozambicans halved the deficit almost immediately when Da Silva made amends with an easy tap in after he was left isolated inside the box.

Mozambique’s renewed hope of a comeback were thwarted just a few minutes later when keeper Nelson Joao was sent off for handling the ball outside the area. With the red card, Mozambique was to either play two minutes or until Angola score with a man less.

The Angolans got their third before the two minutes elapsed, Cambangula showing some deft skills to make it 3-1 with a goal off impressive individual effort on the left.

When Joao, Mozambique hunted to get back into contention and Da Silva completed his brace with another deft finish after Simiao Ubisse’s freekick found him unmarked inside the arch.

But with 46 seconds left to play, Angola increased their tally to go 4-2 at the break with Felipe Gomes’ pass from the left finding Filemon isolated on the right to see him slap the ball past the keeper.

Futsal is a smaller, hard-court version of traditional grass-pitch football.
