Cameroon’s Jean Armel Kana-Biyik quits international football

Cameroon's Jean Armel Kana-Biyik quits international football - Sports Leo

Cameroon international Jean Armel Kana-Biyik, who is only 30, has decided to hang up his boots and end his career with the national team.

The defender, who played in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this year, has decided he wants to concentrate on his club duties with Gazisehir Gaziantep, in the Turkish League.

Kana-Biyik played only six times in the Cameroon defence but says he wants to make way for younger players.

He seems to enjoy playing club football in Turkey and before joining Gazisehir Gaziantep he turned out for Kayserispor.

He started his international career playing for France’s youth team.

But while playing for Rennes and Toulouse he decided his heart belonged in Cameroon and switched loyalties seven years ago.

Kana-Biyik first retired from international football after not making the 2014 World Cup team and ignored call-ups to the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, finally relenting at this year’s tournament.
