Uganda’s U-2O national Women side set for Tanzania

The Uganda U-20 Women national team players will have the chance to gauge themselves against Tanzania before the second leg against South Africa on Friday, 17th December in South Africa.

Tanzania Football Federation has invited the Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team for two friendly matches before its return leg against Burundi in the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

This comes as a major boost following the Men’s side being invited for a friendly against the Taifa Stars on Tanzania’s Independence Day celebrations.

The Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team Coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi confirmed the friendly and said that he will use it to correct the mistakes on 1st leg against South Africa.

The games that will be played on Thursday 09th and 11th 2021 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam are part of events to commemorate Tanzania’s 60 years of Independence.

The friendly will follow the Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team 2nd Leg South Africa Vs Uganda who have a slim advantage having won the first leg 1-0 in Kitende courtesy of Hadijah Nandago’s lone strike.

With both sides having missed a couple of chances in the first leg, that saw the visitors pounce pressure on the home side after conceding, this will be a mouth-watering encounter once again.

South Africa is one of the most dominant teams on the African continent and this will come as a huge test not just for them but for the Ugandan side.

However, the friendly against Tanzania comes at a time when Uganda needs to keep the team in shape and be more lethal in front of goal if they are to haunt their South African counterparts.

The game will serve as a win-win situation for Tanzania as well. With two games to play, Tanzania will equally have the opportunity to adequately prepare them for Burundi.

Tanzania will hope on building momentum ahead of their trip to Burundi following their impressive 3-2 home win in the same campaign (2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier).

Earlier on during the seeding, Uganda had been pitted against Botswana before a correction in the fixture was made. Uganda was then matched against South Africa.

 Uganda mauled Kenya 10-3 on aggregate to reach the third round.

The two sides’ recent history

In the just concluded CECAFA U20 Women competition held in Njeru, Uganda. Tanzania lost to Uganda 1-0 with the hosts netting a penalty on 72 minutes.

 This was after Tanzania’s Christer John Bahera fouled on Shamirah Nalugya in the box before Uganda’s captain, Fauzia Najjemba slotted in a penalty kick past Tanzanian goalkeeper Husna Zuberi Mtunda. What remains to be seen is whether Tanzania can avenge the defeat on home soil or if the Ugandan side will once again come out as victors.
