Mali desperate for draw against Angola to proceed to Afcon knockout stage

Mali eye round of 16 in AFCON 2019 - Sports Leo

Mali play Angola in the final Afcon match in Group E at the Ismailia Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt, on Tuesday night knowing a draw will see them through to the knockout stages of the tournament.

On the other hand, Angola need a victory and three points against Mali if they want to progress into the next round.

After two draws, coach Srdjan Vasiljevic and his charges have only two points and will be desperate for a win.

But Mali are determined that scenario will not happen.

“The most important thing for us is to prepare well for this difficult game as our group is filled with good teams,” said Mali’s midfielder Lassana Coulibaly.

The most famous match between these two teams dates back to the 2010 Afcon in  Angola.

On that occasion, Angola led 4-0 after 79 minutes, but Mali amazingly bounced back to equalise 4-4 in what counts as one of the biggest comebacks in the history of the premier continental competition.

In their last 10 matches (all competitions) Angola have six wins, three draws, and one loss.
