It was not a lucky day for tennis player Johanna Konta after she was graciously outshined by Karolina Muchova at the Cincinnati Open.

Konta was beaten in the first round by a score of 3-6 7-6(7-5) 6-2. The British number one together was defeated, something that she probably did not see coming.

Thirty years Konta has previously won in the first set, something that displayed a good start. However, the second set was interrupted by rain in Ohio.

Nevertheless, the game had to go on. After the players resumed, Muchova, in a close tie-break claimed the second set.

The 24 years old Muchova was so impressed by her performance. She is now set to face Bianca Andreescu, who is the former US Open champion, in round two.

Unfortunately, it has not been a so good season for Johanna Konta. This is because the tennis player has not had back-to-back wins.

Additionally, she has suffered long injury breaks, which is before she bagged the win in the Nottingham Open during this summer. That was her first title since she won the Miami Open in the year 2017.

Moreover, her hopes to shine and do well at Wimbledon were unfortunately shut. That was after she was identified as a close contact of a team member who tested positive for Covid-19.

Johanna as well had to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics. That was because she would not have enough time to prepare, after recovering from Covid-19.

It was unfortunate that Konta seemed to be in a good recovering trend at the Canadian Open but suffered a knee injury that cut short her campaign.

On the other hand, in the men’s tournament in Cincinnati, Norrie outshined American John Isner.

The British number two who hails from Cameroon won at a score of 6-4 2-2 before the rain halted the play.

To be more familiar with Johanna Konta, she is a British professional tennis player, having formerly represented Australia until 2012.

The tennis sensation has won four singles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as 11 singles and four doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit.

She is the current British number one and she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 4 on 17 July 2017.

Additionally, Konta has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the French Open.

Johanna was born to Hungarian parents in Sydney, Australia.

Later on, Konta moved to the U.K. when she was 14. Johanna also has Hungarian citizenship. She switched her sporting allegiance from Australia to Great Britain after she became a British citizen in May 2012.

Konta rose in her ranking from the spring of 2015 to late 2016, climbing from 150 to inside the world’s top ten. Therefore she became the first Briton to be ranked amongst the WTA’s top ten since Jo Durie over 30 years previously.

This period included her best Grand Slam result up to that time, as she reached the semifinal of the 2016 Australian Open, a quarterfinal appearance at the Rio Summer Olympics and her maiden WTA title in Stanford.

Moreover, in the year 2017, Johanna won the Miami Open and reached the semifinal at Wimbledon.

More to the list of her achievements, Konta had another successful season in 2019, reaching the semifinal at the French Open, and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the US Open.
