The 2024 ATP and WTA season is amazing on-court but not so much off-court with a growing number of tennis players breaking up.  Separation from a man or woman you love always hits hard.

It’s even harder for a tennis player to go through a heartbreak; the pressure is too much. As it is, tennis is a very demanding sport with high levels of physical and mental toll. If you add the pain of a heartbreak, it becomes a disaster.

Who Are The Tennis Players Breaking Up?

Call them unlucky at this point. They already know they are but life happens. Here is each of them and how life is now without their ‘other halves’.

1.      Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa

There is always some truth to rumours. The tennis power couple was rumoured to have separated in September 2023 but they quickly refuted the claims. Fast forward to May 2024, Badosa and Tsitsipas are no longer together.

Many were taken aback when the Spanish tennis player revealed their breakup on social media just after 12 months of dating. What led them to separate yet they held to their status as the ideal tennis couple with a significant impact on the sport’s off-court image?

Badosa did not disclose the reason behind her breakup with the Greek player when she made the announcement on her socials. She said that both of them had made the decision and that she had loved every second of it.

“After careful consideration and many cherished moments together, Stefanos and I have decided to amicably part ways,” she wrote on her Instastories.

“We have shared a journey filled with love and learning, and it is as friends with immense mutual respect that we now choose to move forward on our own paths,” she stated.

As with most tennis couples breaking up, it could be that theirs wasn’t true love after all. They met after splitting with their ex-lovers and it points to a rebound. Tsitsipas didn’t stay for long after breaking up with Theodora Petalas. So did Badosa who had just ended things with Juan Betancourt, a Cuban-born model.

2.      Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka’s heartbreak is on another level and it affected her performance to some extent. She dated the late Konstantin Koltsov a while back and he attended some of her tennis matches. They later broke up but news about the former Belarusian hockey player passing on saddened Sabalenka. Koltsov reportedly fell off from the 23rd floor of Miami’s St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort.

His ex-wife Julija Mikhailova told Mami-Dade police that Koltsov was most likely drunk when he fell off the resort’s 23^rd floor. The former hockey player loved the bottle according to Mikhailova and police found empty alcohol bottles in his room.

3.      Marketa Vondrousova

Wimbledon 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova never had a happy ending with her ex-husband Stepan Simek.  The Czech tennis player and Simek were childhood friends and they both loved playing tennis. They started dating in 2016 and it was all good as Vondrousova focused on growing her tennis career. They got married in 2022 but things did not work out for them.

Simek who is an IT specialist in Prague left their house with their cat and a divorce followed; thereafter she told Blesk in an interview. Her only reservation about being among tennis players breaking up is that her adorable cat left with Simek.

4.      Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini and his model ex-girlfriend Melissa Satta broke up early this year. Despite inspiring many with their dedication to one another, the two ex-lovers said that there was a lot that pulled them apart.  Since disclosing to the world that he was dating the Italian model and TV personality, his life changed. There was a lot of public scrutiny especially due to his tennis performance.

Berrettini, knowing that he was among tennis players breaking up, chose not to tell the public why they separated. He said that he enjoyed time spent with Satta and the best he could do is let her live in peace by not sharing what led to their separation.
