Raphael Varane announced on Tuesday that he will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the current campaign after three years with the Premier League team.
Varane, 31, left Real Madrid after ten years in 2021 to join United. He helped the English team win the League Cup in 2023 and has 67 league outings to his belt.
Three years ago, Man United spent €40 million (£34.4 million) to acquire Varane to Old Trafford. Since then, he has made 93 appearances and scored two goals, solidifying his place in the Red Devils’ defense.
Despite only being able to start 16 Premier League games this season due to injuries and competition for spots, Varane has played 30 games this season and has awards from the EFL Cup winners’ medal and the FA Cup runners-up medal during his time in Manchester.
The 31-year-old actually committed to a three-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months, despite what was first believed to be a four-year pact upon his arrival in Manchester in 2021.

Varane posted on Instagram, “Thank you for everything, Manchester United.”
He said, “I’ll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye.” For the final home game of the season. And it will undoubtedly be a very emotional day for me.”
Man United announced that the center-back “brought a great deal of class and experience to the team throughout his appearances so far” in a statement posted on the team’s website. When the Frenchman lifted the 2023 Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium, he also contributed to our winning our first major trophy in six years.
Varane has only made 93 outings in his three seasons at United due to injuries; the defender will be heading out the team this summer when his contract expires.
The center defender hasn’t played since Chelsea’s 4-3 loss on April 4th, but he’s been recovering from his injury and should be back in action before the season is up.
Will there be more exits including Bruno Fernandes?

Despite rumors that connect Bruno Fernandes to a move overseas, Erik ten Hag does not think the player will leave Manchester United.
The Independent claims that Bayern Munich is interested in recruiting the Portuguese midfield player, who is allegedly “frustrated by the sense of drift” at Old Trafford.
As he approaches the latter two years of his contract with the Red Devils, Saudi Pro League teams are also showing interest in the 29-year-old.
Ten Hag said last week that Fernandes will “definitely” finish out his current contract, which has an option for one more year.
The Dutchman restated that position before of Wednesday’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle United, as concerns over the player’s future with the team grow.
Additionally, Ten Hag has stated that Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford will also be evaluated, and Lisandro Martinez is expected to play when Eddie Howe’s team visits.
The query is the same as it was last week. Thus, I responded. The same response,” he declared.
He has been a vital member of Manchester United for all the years he has been here, providing the most opportunities in the Premier League. So many goals, so many assists. He’s obviously a key member of our team.
With 15 goals in all competitions this season and 11 assists, Fernandes is the team’s top goal scorer.
Under the new management of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Man United plans to make changes to their roster during the summer transfer window. According to reports, the British billionaire is willing to let go of all but three first team players.
When his contract expires at the end of the season, Raphael Varane will depart the team, as he revealed on Tuesday. Casemiro has also been linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League.
