The 2023/24 Premier League season concluded last weekend with Manchester City being crowned champions. During the season we saw various astonishing performances and a few records being set. In this article, we’re going to take a look at Premier League records that might never be broken. Without wasting much time, let’s get started.

1. Most Times Hitting The Woodwork In One Match

Darwin Nunez arrived at Liverpool as one of the best young strikers in Europe. However, the Uruguayan has struggled to score consistently despite having already spent two seasons in the Premier League.

Whereas many flop strikers find it difficult to get into scoring positions, Nunez knows how to position himself and create chances. However, he sometimes fails to convert chances that you don’t expect a top striker like him to miss. He has missed simple tap ins and other easy opportunities which have led to him being criticized several times by fans.

During a 4-1 crushing of Chelsea at Anfield, Liverpool could have scored more goals against the Blues if Nunez had converted all his chances. He hit the crossbar twice and the post twice, hence registering an unwanted record of most times hitting the woodwork in one match.

2. Most Consecutive Games Unbeaten

Arsenal have really transformed under Mikel Arteta and have been title contenders in the past two seasons. Despite recording massive wins keeping City on their toes throughout the 2023/24 campaign, the Gunners were not lethal like Arsene Wenger’s 2003/04 squad that won the league unbeaten.

According to GiveMeSport, Arsenal went a whopping 49 games without testing defeat that season, winning the Premier League in the process. This is one of the Premier League records that could remain for a long time considering the level of competition in the league. Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City side couldn’t break their record while at their peak when they won the treble last season.

4. Most Consecutive Premier League Defeats

Whereas Arsenal boasts most consecutive Premier League wins, Sunderland holds the unwanted record of most defeats in a row. Sunderland haven’t played in the Premier League for some time now but their fans will be happy not to have the memories of their team going 20 matches without even managing a draw.

During the 2002/03 season, Sunderland lost their last 15 matches and were relegated in the process. After returning in 2005, they picked up from where they had left losing five consecutive matches. Even though they stopped the losing run in their sixth match, Sunderland only managed 15 points at the end of that season.

Considering the competitiveness we see in the Premier League nowadays as teams fight to take points from one another, it’s very unlikely that Sunderland’s run of 20 defeats in a row is likely to be matched anytime soon. This is one of the Premier League records that will stand for a long time.

5. Most Goals By A Player In One Half

Jermain Defoe

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermain Defoe holds the record of most goals scored by a player in one half. On 22 November 2009, Defoe found the back of the net five times in 45 minutes as Spurs thumped Wigan Athletic 9-1. The Englishman was at his best that evening and could have scored more goals had he been given more opportunities.

Even though many might argue that this record is in danger of being broken by the Erling Haaland, I believe not because the Norwegian didn’t do so in his debut season when he was totally unstoppable. But let me not rule him out because Haaland is a monster who on a good day can score up to five goals.
