Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino have parted ways by mutual consent a few hours after the manager met with club board.
Pochettino was in charge of Chelsea for just one year and his exit has caused controversy on social media as some fans wanted him to stay. Despite a poor start to the 2023/24 season, the Argentine did get Chelsea back on track and even led them a European spot. He also guided Chelsea to the final of Carabao Cup and semi-final of FA Cup.
Nevertheless, the club has decided to bring his time at Stamford Bridge to an end and will be choosing another manager this summer.

According to football.london, Pochettino met with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly on Friday for a meal. While the details of the meeting were not revealed, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss was again called for a meeting on Monday. It is understood that he agreed to leave the club by mutual consent on Tuesday morning, with the report making headlines later in the evening.
Pochettino has exited Chelsea alongside his son Sebastiano Pochettino, who served as the fitness coach and sports scientist of the Blues. Assistant head coach Jesus Perez and other members of Pochettino’s coaching staff Miguel d’Agostino and Toni Jimenez have all left the club.
“Chelsea FC can confirm that the Club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways. Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino have left the club with Mauricio. The Club will be making no further comment until such time as a new Head Coach is appointed” Statement on Chelsea’s official website reads.
Pochettino joined Chelsea on 1 July 2023 after his spell at Paris Saint-Germain came to an end. He signed a two-year deal with the London side and as someone who had previously coached in the Premier League, there were hopes that he could lead them in the right direction considering Chelsea have struggled since winning the UEFA Champions League in 2021.
At first it seemed as if the task at Chelsea was too much for the Argentine manager but he soon led the team to several consecutive victories and got the best out of players such as Cole Palmer.
Chelsea finished sixth during the 2023/24 campaign, hence booking a spot in next season’s Europa Conference League. The Blues won 29 out of 51 matches under Pochettino.
What Did Mauricio Pochettino Say?
With his exit confirmed, Pochettino thanked Chelsea ownership group for providing him with the opportunity to be part of the club’s history. He also pointed out that he has left the club in a good position to move forward in the Premier League and European football starting next season.

Pochettino was the sixth permanent manager of Chelsea in the past five years. He took over from Frank Lampard who had been hired on interim basis after the dismissal of former Brighton manager Graham Potter.
Chelsea Sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley wished Pochettino all the best in his future endeavours and added that he is welcomed at Stamford Bridge any time.
BBC Sport reports that Todd Boehly and his ownership are interested in bringing in a young manager at the club. While the return of former managers Jose Mourinho and Thomas Tuchel are being talked about on social media, Chelsea ownership is weighing other options and have shown interest in Sporting CP’s manager Ruben Amorim, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany.
